Do you feel frustrated and burnt out with the "weight loss game?" I know I was. Ok, I was MORE than frustrated. Furious is probably a closer word to the feeling/s I was feeling. One thing, and probably the BIGGEST thing that has changed in my habits and mindset, is my perception of myself. How do you identify? Do you identify yourself by your career? Your relationship status? Your "sexual preference"? Your size? If so, you have yet to pass the biggest threshold, the battle of the mind. Once you break through the wall of your war in your head with yourself, you have just finished half the battle. That took a really, REALLY long time for me. Even though I was raised in a home teaching me how much my Savior loves me, I guess I didn't really embrace it as I should. And for a child/teenager/young adult, that isn't uncommon. In today's age, it is even MORE common to be struggling with this INTO adulthood, and beyond! Sure, we can blame the digital age, filters on social media platforms, bikini shots on the beach and sports bra and seamed tushy leggings in the gym, but in reality, that is only a fraction of it. The heart is still at the root of all of this. I remember even my 90 year old grandma, still being self conscious of her figure. She was a TALL, thin woman in all the years I knew her, but as a child, her height, and larger bone frame made her extremely self conscious. And yes, even well meaning parents and not well meaning peers did the same thing they still continue to do today: body shame. So the first thing we need to do is change the mindset and let go of the identity in "self", and fall into the identity of the One who created us and loves us more than any love we could ever comprehend as humans.
The "Me First Mindset Method" coaching plan I offer is an EXCELLENT tool backed by science and strategies through the Health Coach Institute, to help you overcome the "you" and embrace the change awaiting you. In addition to all of that, here are 5 reasons you may still be "stuck" when it comes to releasing fat, building lean muscle and dropping inches. 1) Eating TOO often. Meaning, say you wakeup at 6 AM and have breakfast at 7. You count your macros/calories, workout, but by the end of your long work day, it's now 10 PM and you are HUNGRY for a snack! For many, this is fine! But for another percentage, the pancreas is struggling to keep up , adrenals are struggling and your body is just not burning the calories and getting the digestive rest it needs to rebuild. Intermittent Fasting is an approach that has worked wonderfully for me and many others who are struggling in this realm. 2) Not eating enough PROTEIN! Maybe your meal plan consists of say, 1900 calories. ( A good amount for some, a horrible amount for others! Again, we are not cookie cutters of each other). If out of these 1900 calories, say you are not a fan of meat, or dairy, and don't even realize you are only getting maybe 30 grams of protein throughout the day....YIKES!!! This can have a HUGE impact on weight loss and through coaching, you will learn the "how's" and "why's" of that. HERE is mine and my family's FAVORITE PROTEIN meal replacement. It's also sold in a plant based formula as well!
3) Not getting enough FIBER. Fiber=ELIMINATION. (and many other things including healthy cholesterol levels). The point being, if you are not getting the right amount of fiber, you are hindering weight loss. TOO
much? That's a whole other issue for many, which can be covered in another topic for another day. 4) Not enough WATER! Our body is made up about 60% water. It lubricates joints, eliminates toxins through our urine and bowel movements and flushes out things like the kidneys. Water helps suppress appetite when the appetite is more of a "pituitary" issue than true hunger. The body also NEEDS water to burn fat. A good rule of thumb: Drink HALF YOUR BODY WEIGHT IN OUNCES of clean, purified water daily. 5) Not enough SLEEP! Hands down sleep is SO crucial. The year I homeschooled over the "pandemic" I was not getting the sleep I needed, and got into an unhealthy routine of staying up too late on screens, prepping for the next day. I gained 10 lbs that school year, doing NOTHING different diet and exercise wise. I just wasn't getting the sleep my body needed, thus not allowing my body to heal (which sleep does), which thus creates an unhealthy cortisol response which thus......I think you catch my drift here. YOU NEED SLEEP!!!
